About Woodworth Piano Service

Established in 1946 by master craftsman Hayden Woodworth, Woodworth Piano Service brings to the community a 60 year tradition of excellence, integrity and skill in the field of piano care and maintenance. After his untimely death in 1978, the business was passed on to two of his sons, Steve and Phil.

Steve Woodworth has been a full time piano technician in Delaware since training with his father in 1972, including serving 5 years as founder and owner of Woodworth Piano and Organ Center in Dover, DE from 1974 to 1979. Currently, Steve tunes for Washington College in Chestertown, MD, Delaware State University and Wesley College in Dover, DE, as well as in schools and private homes.

Phil Woodworth trained extensively at the side of his Father from the age of 14.  At the age of 22, upon graduation from Juniata College with a major in music, he took and passed the test assessed by The Piano Technicians Guild, and became a registered tuner/technician or RTT.  Two years later Phil was hired, sight unseen, on references only, by Thayer Piano Company, the Steinway dealer in Honolulu, Hawaii, as shop foreman and head  piano technician.  After the passing of his father, Phil returned to Pennsylvania to take over the family business and has been maintaining the pianos in over 1500 homes, churches and schools for the past 30 years.

Phil, his wife beyond compare and secretary extraordinaire Robin, with whom you will have the pleasure of speaking when you call for an appointment, and their 7 children, currently reside in the Garnet Valley area of Southeast Pennsylvania. They attend Brandywine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, where Phil works part time as an assistant to the Minister of Worship and Music.
